The 2023 Regimental Week Annual CCRA BBQ was another huge success. A special thanks to all those who came out and shared in the fellowship of the CCRA and a congratulations goes out to the LTG Thomas W. Spoehr Chapter of Washington D.C. who were selected as this past year’s Chapter of the Year. The award was presented by the CCRA President, Jeff Brodeur and the CCRA Board of Directors. Accepting the award on behalf of the Thomas W. Spoehr Chapter was their Chapter President, COL(Ret) Mandy Lopez and LTG(Ret) Thomas Spoehr.
This year’s BBQ was especially rewarding as many of our 2023 Regimental Week Exhibition exhibition vendors, and also guests from the Fort Leonard Wood community were in attendance. It was great to see many familiar faces of the Chemical Corps who were gathered together in support of the Chemical Corps’ Regimental Week activities.
A very special presentation was made by the Corps’ own Hall of Fame Inductee, Dr. John Thiel; who presented an original Chemical Drill Sergeant’s helmet, worn by Dr. Thiel while serving as a Drill Sergeant in 1965. Dr. Thiel presented his Drill Sergeant helmet to Mr. Scott Franklin, the current Director of the U.S. Army’s Chemical Corps Museum. The helmet, along with several photographs of Drill Sergeant Thiel, is currently on display in the Chemical Corps’ museum gallery on Fort Leonard Wood.
